What is a parallel universe and why do we believe it exists?
It’s a tough question – and we get answers to ‘big’ questions like this sometimes by looking at the realm of the very small – or in this case, the level of quantum events. At the level of sub-atomic particles, such as electrons, it appears that something can be ‘in two places’ at the same time, which makes no sense – except that any probability, or possibility, is real -somewhere. So – this is the idea of parallel universes, building up from quantum probabilities and the so called ‘uncertainty principal’ – to manifest literally as an entire universe, out of ‘phase’ from our own, in which other possibilities/probabilites occur. For example, in some ‘parallel universe’ you got in a car accident on your way to work today; while in another, you did not, while in another, you were abducted by aliens, and in another, an asteroid collided with your world, and so on, and so on…. GREAT QUESTION – KEEP STUDYING SCIENCE!!!
