What is a panel door bit?

0

These bits are manufactured so that the rail (top & bottom) & style (sides) of a panel door fit together as perfect joints. Panel door router bits are available as either matched pairs or a single router bit made so that when the timber is reversed the exact opposite shape is produced. In the case of a matched pair of bits one side of each stile & one side of each rail is routed with the first bit. The second bit is a perfectly matched opposite of the first. This is used to rout the ends of the rails so that the four pieces of timber when assembled form the panel door with the routed edges facing the centre. The panel door router bits also form a groove of 4 or 5mm into which the panel is placed prior to gluing the door together.
