What is a p.o.a. horse???
The POA horse breed is no more than 56 inches it originated from an Arab/Appaloosa mare who had been bred to a Shetland Stallion. The owner Les Boomhower, was a Shetland breeder and a Lawyer. The mare’s foal was a colt with certainly unusual markings. Boomhower liked the character and markings, which looked like paint smears on the colt. He was so taken that after various discussion he set up with the horse that he set up the Ponies of Americas Club as a breed registry. The POA horse breed standards are as such; the horse had to be colored like an Appaloosa, have a dished head like an Arab and to be muscled as the Quarter Horse.
