What is a Nurse Practitioner?
A Nurse Practitioner is an R.N. with additional training, which allows her/him to perform many of the duties previously ascribed only to physicians. Today, graduating Nurse Practitioners have a master’s degree in nursing which means they have studied their chosen profession for at least six years. A Nurse Practitioner may specialize in pediatrics, woman’s health, oncology, mid-wifery, anesthesia, or family practice to name a few.
A Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse who has completed additional training in medicine. NP’sin the state of Illinois have a registered nurse license as well as an advanced practice nurse license. They musthave a master’s degree and be board certified in their specialty. They are known for being compassionate and thorough professionals. Nurse Practitioners perform many of the duties of a physician and have a collaborative relationship with the physician.
