What is a Network IP camera?
An IP Network Camera combines the functionality of a digital video camera with an IP network device. It sends live video over an IP network. This process allows the users to view and/or manage the camera with either a Web browser or with video management software that is capable of running on any local or remote computer in a network. All authorized viewers can access images at the same network camera even if they are in different locations. An IP Network Camera connects directly to the network without a local PC -unlike a webcam which requires a PC to function- and has its own IP address and on-board software for control and communication. All cameras are bundled with PC software for remote access, control and some come with recording of up to 16 cameras from any PC on the network, via a Web browser. There are currently many types of cameras from, a variety of manufacturers. The cameras can be categorised by the following: • Wired Cameras • Wireless Cameras • Dome Cameras • Sound: 1-w
