What is a NetID?

0

A NetID is a user id between three and eight characters long that is associated with an account in the GW NetID system. The NetID is entered, along with a password, to access various GW systems, such as Colonial Mail (the email system), Blackboard (the course management system), and myGW (GW s online portal). If the NetID account has email privileges associated with it, the accountholder s email address is NetID@gwu.edu. Each member of GW’s student body, faculty, and staff is expected to establish a NetID. A person may have only one NetID.

The NetID is a login name that contains no personal information about the user. It replaces the current logins for e-mail and for Blackboard. It does not replace or change a person’s e-mail address. Students already use NetID to access several systems on campus and more systems will convert to using it over time. The goal is for us to come as close to a single sign on as possible using the NetID as a campus-wide identifier.
