What is a Monologue?
A monologue is a dramatic soliloquy, or form of discourse in which a character talks to himself or herself or reveals his or her thoughts without addressing a listener. Monologues, which must be memorized, are a standard audition requirement and may be required as advance preparation for some classes. Comic monologues are intended to be humorous, and contemporary monologues must have been published within the last thirty years. There is a restriction on the length of a monologue for auditioning, included in the announcement; please follow it exactly! Select your monologue from a play, novel, movie or other published work which is not written by you or someone you know.
