What is a moleskine notebook?
Artists and avid travelers have always needed something to make sketches or jot down some notes into. From the days of artists such as Van Gogh to the travels of Sir H.M. Stanley, notebooks have been an important tool. They allow you to capture moments and ideas, to make lasting memories and be creative. Notebooks come in a wide range and there are many companies that manufacture them. However, no brand is as revered as the Moleskine notebook.
Moleskin is a brand name for a series of notebooks ranging from a journal type with lined pages, one made for sketching to one that will take pen and ink or light watercolor washes. The notebooks come in various sizes and all have an elastic band around them to hold any papers you might collect in their back, inner pocket. Per their ad, Ernest Hemingway used a Moleskin but whether or not that is true, they are good quality. I have used their watercolor notebooks and their paper is pretty light and not textured but it is OK. Have seen them in large bookstores like Barnes & Noble and Borders in California. There are other watercolor travel notebook around with heavier paper for watercolor but the Moleskin ones are well made. They are a bit expensive but because they come in lined, unlined, lightweight and heavier paper, they can be used by people whether they want a journal to write poetry, a travel book or a watercolor book in differing sizes.
