What is a Mishloach Manot (Purim basket) theme?
On the day of Purim one must send two items of food to at least to one person ,to make sure that everyone has sufficient food for the Purim feast. It is also in order to increase love and friendship between Jews, thereby commemorating Haman’s accusations that there is strife and dissention among Jews. This is an ideal opportunity to repair broken relationships by sending packages to people with whom one has bad feelings, or sending gifts to the poor.Generally one should send food that can be eaten immediately (not having to cook ).One could also sen drink.To-day we went to an old age home with all the kippah-sruga pupils from our neighborhood and danced, sang and gave to each one of the elderly people mishloah manot. That was so exciting !

In recent years it has become popular to distribute Shalach Manot baskets with a theme. While we’d recommend that those running a Shalach Monos fundraiser for the first time use a traditional, Purim-themed basket (with kosher goodies including Hamentaschen) the more adventurous make baskets with themes ranging from the Seven Species of Israel to “Have a Nutty Purim” or a baseball theme.
