A mentored lactation education plan (MLEP) is a structured plan for teaching the clinical skills you will need to practice as lactation consultant. This clinical training must be directly supervised by at least one experienced, currently certified IBCLC. The mentorship would be collaboratively planned and developed by you and your mentor(s). The plan must include strategies for learning all the clinical competencies listed on the Clinical Competencies for IBCLC Practice. MLEPs must be submitted to IBLCE for approval prior to beginning the directly supervised clinical practice. For detailed information, download the Pathway 3 Guide.
