What is a mentor?
A mentor can be defined as a coach, friend, role model or tutor. They are usually viewed as an older, more experienced individual who seeks to further the development of character and competence in a younger person. These one-on-one relationships are focused on assisting with positive youth development.
A Mentor is the person who hired you at Carteret. Your Mentor is responsible for recommending you and vouching for you to the company. Your Mentor is your link to the company. Your Mentor is a person who is there to be of service and assistance. Your Mentor has a vested financial interest in your success: if you need help, ask him and he will be there for you.
From the protégé’s perspective: Once a mentoring relationship is conceptualized as the delivery of the assistance required by a protégé to achieve a desired transition or necessary transformation, both mentor and protégé can be more clearly identified. Mentoring is mobilized through a dynamic exchange of resources. As such, the identity of a mentor for each protégé becomes understood more or less by default as the individual, individuals and/or experiences which actually enable or provide such support for the protégé. Therefore, from a protégé’s perspective, a larger vision of mentor includes an array of available resources, which might be composed of individuals, goods and assets in combination with expertise, experiences and motivating inspirations. For a protégé, each successful mentoring relationship is a transforming relationship. Mentor Me Petaluma Changes Lives! Our mission is to match every Petaluma child who needs one with a mentor – a caring adult role model and friend; your decision will help us reach our goal. Mentoring is not therapy or tutoring. Mentors provide a listening ear, non-judgmental guidance; they act as good role models for their mentees, helping them learn to set healthy boundaries and become happy, resilient people. The magic of mentoring lies in the relationship and trust that flourish over time, therefore we hope that mentors will be able to give two years to their mentees. Many mentors continue mentoring for many years, into high school and beyond! Mentors meet with their mentees once a week for an hour, on school campus, during the school day and during the school year. Mentoring enriches two lives simultaneously.
