The job of a medical records technician, in a nutshell, is to develop and maintain a system for organizing patient records. As a medical records technician, you ensure that all forms are properly filled out, signed and processed. You collect medical history data, track treatment, evaluate effectiveness of treatment, and ensure that all information from each doctor/patient encounter is recorded and stored in the patient record file and on computer. Of all of the health-related positions, the medical records technician has the least contact with the patient.
