that depends entirely on how you define “a meaningful topic.” I consider it highly meaningful to try to persuade you into rethinking your definition of what topics should be considered meaningful, for instance. Your teacher is very likely simply trying to get you to think outside the box, and avoid topics that have been covered so in-depth that there’s really nothing new for you to say about them. But a good way to figure out what is meaningful for you is what do you spend your time thinking about? Avoid sexual topics, of course, but if you enjoy cars, then cars are meaningful, if you enjoy sports, then sports are meaningful, if you enjoy playing video games, then video games are meaningful, and so on. Figure out what really matters to you, and then think about what arguments people might make about that (ie, “waste of time,” “dangerous,” etc.
