What is a McMansion exactly?
As you may have already guessed, the “Mc” prefix is a reference to mega fast food restaurant McDonald’s. Like the restaurant and its products, these homes are mass-produced, super-sized, and are dispensed like burgers. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but it does lack the true architectural flavor of a determined area, giving instead a more artificial look. Here are some of the pros and cons of this recent housing phenomenon. Pros: • More bang for your buck: MSNBC says that prefabricated houses are factory-built and assembled on site, which makes them more affordable, and gives people the opportunity to enjoy a luxury home for less money. • Raise property value: The Real Estate Journal says that one good side of super-sized McMansions is that they can raise a neighborhood’s home value. So if you sell your “regular” house in an area where McMansions rule, you are most likely to get a better price for it. • Fast construction: Another pro about prefabricated homes is that they are qui
