What is a Matterhorn Capture Agent?
The Matterhorn Capture Agent is a small hardware device, often called an capture appliance, that records presentations and lectures. It’s an optional part of the lecture capture system, and is most often installed alongside presentation and sound stations in lecture theaters. It records automatically and needs no operator; just set the agent to poll for schedules from the Matterhorn core and media will be recorded and ingested when the lecture has ended! The Matterhorn project supports both the reference capture agent device outlined here, as well as media created on a variety of third party devices. By purchasing and using the Matterhorn hardware components there are no licensing costs or maintenance fees to pay. At approximately $1000 (USD) or less for an appliance that captures vga, video, and audio, it’s an affordable and scalable solution.
