Proxy marriage is recognized in all states except Iowa. What it is you pay the fees and then someone stands in for you at the wedding ceremony and they sign the marriage license on your behalf. There are double proxy marriages where both parties are represented by others and single proxy which is when one of the parties must be present while the other party is represented by a proxy.
