What is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern?
A Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (“MFTi”) is a non-licensed therapist who is in the process of completing 3,000 supervised hours of counseling experience in order to be qualified to sit for a state-licensing exam. In California, an MFTi, such as Debra Blackwell-Schrag, has completed a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and has successfully fulfilled all other requirements to obtain an intern number from the State of California Board of Behavioral Science. For more information regarding MFT Interns in California, visit the California Board of Behavioral Sciences Website at http://www.bbs.ca.gov/. MFT Interns generally charge lower fees than licensed clinicians, and in California, are not eligible to accept insurance payment for services. Debra’s fees are representative of her intern status at $50 per ongoing session, with an initial intake session fee of $70. Debra accepts checks or cash, payable to the Ventura Counseling Center.
