What is a lymph nodes open biopsy?
If the lymph node is in a tricky area as you describe, an OPEN biopsy is required meaning they have to OPEN you up- minor surgery. Where as the other biopsy is called a needle guided biopsy where it is accessible enough to access with a needle, get the sample the need without having to go in and make an inscision. An open biopsy is usually for places that are trickier to get to and because it is open it is slightly higher risk/recovery. Its a common procedure but you will likely have stitches/an incision mark making it more recovery than a needle one. And higher risk because they are opening you up so higher risk of complications. I don’t think you need to worry about it though- just giving you all the information I can. Im sorry you have to have this done though I am mildly concerned that you are going into the hospital to have a procedure and don’t have a clear understanding of what it is?
