What is a LIPO balancer?
One important device that protects your Li-Po battery is a balancer. Lithium polymer batteries can be damaged in numerous ways. Examples of this include, but are not limited to, physical damages, high temperatures, and unbalanced voltages. Of these various culprits, the most difficult to control is the voltage. Since the batteries are wired in a series, they will, over time, become unbalanced (each cell will have a slightly different voltage). This can lead to individual cells being charged at higher voltages than they are capable of. A battery charger can only read the average voltage of a battery, not the individual cells. This means that the charger will charge the battery as a whole at 4.2V/cell, but the individual cells can still have varying voltages. A LiPo balancer works by connecting cell taps to each individual cell of the battery. By using these taps rather than the standard charger, the balancer can assess and correct the voltage of each cell. [Back To Top] • How do I use a
