What is a linkbase locator?
A linkbase is a fragment of XML markup that relates a number of XML markup fragments. Some of the markup fragments being related are part of the linkbase itself. These are linkbase resources. Some of the fragments being related by the linkbase are external to the linkbase, in other parts of the same XML document or even in other XML documents altogether. In the context of XBRL, the linkbases are used to define relationships between XBRL concepts and to associate pieces of information (labels and reference information) to those concepts. To embellish the XBRL concepts (XML Schema element definitions used by XBRL) the linkbases need to references those concepts and they do so using locators. These are simply particular types of elements, defined within the XBRL XML schema document with namespace “http://www.xbrl.org/2001/XLink/xbrllinkbase”.
