What is a lie angle?
Lie angle is an important fitting variable, with the importance growing as iron loft increases. Irons with incorrect lie angles will consistently produce shots of poor directional quality. Golf irons that are too upright (toe elevated at impact) will consistently produce shots that are pulled; irons that are too flat (heel elevated at impact) will consistently produce shots that are pushed. Irons with the proper lie angle will strike the ground at a point on the sole in direct relation to the center of the clubface. Correct lie angle combined with a square clubface and correct swing path will produce shots on line to the target.
