A latent print is one that is unseen, and must be developed (using chemicals, powders, or an alternate light source) to enable you to see it. There are also patent prints (visible – where the fingers were contaminated with something like oil, blood, or dirt and then touched a cleaner surface) and plastic prints (impressed into a softer surface, like wet pain, chocolate, silly putty). Hope this helps! 🙂 (edited for a typo – I hate typos!
