A laparoscopic fundoplication (sometimes called a Nissen) is a surgery that recreates the LES by wrapping the top of the stomach around the esophagus. This prevents acid from backwashing into the esophagus. Laparoscopic surgery is performed through five small incisions instead of one long incision.
