What is a Landscape Architect/Landscape Designer?
Many people have heard of Garden Designers, but the wider profession of Landscape Architecture is still little known in the U.K. A Landscape Architect designs and manages the implementation of spaces in the environment, in much the same way that an Architect designs and oversees the construction of buildings. The Architect and Landscape Architect’s professional method of work is very similar. It encompasses not only the design phase, (masterplanning, sketch designs, construction detail design and planting design) but client consultation, sometimes community consultation, project survey, costing and financial management, devising contract documentation and specifications, working with related professionals such as Quantity Surveyors and Engineers, managing the tendering process of landscape designs, supervising the construction of the project on the ground by overseeing the work of the Landscape Contractor, and managing the maintenance and management of landscapes.
