What is a keepsake quilt?
A keepsake quilt is one that uses fabrics that have personal meaning or history to the quilter or the recipient of the quilt. Some examples are: • Scrappy quilts are a mismatch type of quilt that uses old clothing, such as baby clothes, costumes or favorite outfits. • Denim quilts made from the good parts of worn out blue jeans or • T-shirt quilts are created by sewing squares of favorite t-shirts together, usually centering logos or decorative embellishments on the square. • Necktie quilts incorporate discarded neckties arranged in a pattern and sewn or appliquéd onto a quilt. All of these keepsake quilts give the recipient a lasting piece of their history. These quilts are great gifts that provide a sewn scrapbook of sorts.
