What is a JDM or Japanese Take Out?
If you’ve been looking for engines on the internet, you’ve probably seen many importers of engines from Japan. JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) engines are used engines that are removed from scrapped Japanese vehicles and exported in shipping containers to the U.S. market. Please be advised that while some of these engines will work fine as replacement engines, they were never intended for the U.S. market and may be quite different from your original engine. Problems with engine fit, emission testing (where applicable), and increased installation costs are common problems reported from consumers. It should also be noted that many of these importers misrepresent mileage and condition of these engines.
