A JD degree is the professional graduate degree usually required to practice law in the United States. JD is the abbreviation for “Juris Doctor” or “Doctorate of Jurisprudence.” ABA (American Bar Association) accredited law schools require a bachelor’s degree for admittance and generally require three years of legal study to complete a JD degree.
