BASIX definition On-demand hot water recirculation system means a system that, on demand, recirculates cold water sitting in the hot water pipe back to the water heating system for heating before use, as a means of saving water. It does not include continuously recirculating or timed hot water recirculation systems. On demand refers to recirculation being triggered by operation of the hot water tap. Note: a hot water recirculation system is NOT an instantaneous hot water system. For further information on hot water systems, refer to the help notes within the ‘Energy’ section. To maximise the water saving benefits, the system must be permanently connected to every hot water-using fixture located within the dwelling.
