What is a Holter Monitor test?
A Holter monitor continuously records your heart rhythm, usually for 24 hours, while you go about your usual daily activities. It is especially useful in diagnosing abnormal heart rhythms. What can I expect during the test? Several small adhesive electrodes will be placed on your chest to pick up the heart’s electrical signal. Wires run from the electrodes to a small box (the size of a paperback book) that contains a portable tape recorder (this is the monitor). The recorder may be worn suspended from a shoulder strap or attached to a belt. Please bring a current list of your medications with you at the time of your appointment. You will also be asked to keep a diary of your regular daily activities while you are wearing the monitor. It is especially important to write down the times of your activities, any symptoms that may occur and the times that you take your medications. After wearing the Holter monitor for 24 hours, you will be instructed when to remove the monitor and to return
