What is a hold?

A ‘hold’ may be placed on a student’s record for departmental reasons or for other unsettled university obligations. Students may be denied access to the registration system (CPReg), transcripts, use of facilities, services, materials, campus credit until all ‘holds’ have been cleared. To clear holds, students must contact the department responsible for placing the hold. Students may use the my.calpoly.edu ‘Registration Status Channel’ to check on any holds.

A HOLD is a request to get an item after the current borrower returns it. A HOLD does not change the original due date, but prevents the borrower who has it from renewing it.

A hold is a restriction placed on your account for failure to comply with some obligation. Student Accounts places holds on accounts for various reasons. The most common reason is failure to clear account balances by the payment due date. Holds prevent registration for future terms, release of transcripts, and other college services.

When the item you need is checked out, you can ask for a hold. This means that we won’t allow the current borrower to renew the book and, when it is returned, the owning library will hold it at their circulation desk for you to pick up there. If your library record contains your email address, you’ll be notified when the book is returned.
