What is a Higher National Diploma?
A Higher National Diploma (HND) is an alternative vocational qualification to a Degree. Higher National qualifications are offered by universities and colleges and cover a wide range of subjects. The College offers a selection of Higher National Diplomas through its partnership with the University of Greenwich. HNDs are different because they combine theory and practice as they prepare students for employment at technician, supervisory or management levels. In many cases, the HND can also provide students with the opportunity to progress into the second or third year of an appropriate Degree. Most professions have their own professional examinations and qualifications, which lead to admission to a particular professional body. In some cases, holders of the Higher National Diploma can gain exemption or partial exemption from the examinations of professional bodies. Applicants for HND programmes will typically require 1 ‘A’ Level pass, or an Advanced GNVQ, or a BTEC National Diploma from
