What is a Heart CAT Scan or Coronary Angiogram?
Coronary CAT Scans | Cardiac CT| Spiral CT |16 – 64 Slice – 128 Slice Coronary CAT Scans CT Heart Scans are a new way of imaging the heart using sophisticated CAT scans that allows a 3-D visualization of the heart, the vessels and sometimes the chest. A CAT scan (Computerized Axial Tomography) is a non-invasive procedure, sometimes enhanced by an IV (intravenous )dye injection. CT angiography or CT heart scans (coronary CT scans) are being improved on a regular basis. The earliest models were called 4-slice, but newer models offer even better resolution or pictures. CT angiography is used to outline the coronary vessels, both to detect calcium (calcification or hardened areas) and blockages. Some blockages are due to ‘soft plaques’ which are not hardened or calcified. Spiral CTs or CT angiography can help determine if there are blockages of the coronary vessels in a patient with chest pain, to help determine whether the pain is due to angina or heart disease.
