The color engine and supporting color modules within the Harlequin RIP were developed prior to the formation of the ICC. There are many similarities but there are also differences, so development has continued because there are advantages to using Harlequin profiles. There are color tools designed to build Harlequin profiles and the profiles are customized for a given device, screening, resolution, inking and substrate, as well as containing calibration data. In certain situations they make sense whereas in others an ICC profile may be suitable.
