What is a hardy perennial plant?
A hardy plant is one that will survive overwintering naturally in an outdoor environment, even if the top growth is cut back by frost. A plant’s hardiness varies according to local climatic conditions. The term perennial generally refers to a plant that enjoys a natural lifespan of several growing seasons. Some hardy perennial plants can thrive and live through a seasonal cycle over very many years or decades, others may only live, or be at their best from a gardener’s point of view, for a limited number of years.
