What is a hair growth cycle?
Hair grows in three phases: Anagen (growing), Catagen (transitional), and Telogen (resting). Hair can be removed only during the anagen (growing) phase. The laser “sees” color or pigment in the hair bulb. The bulb contains the most melanin during the growing phase and therefore when the laser heats the bulb it can destroy the follicle. If the hair is not growing then it is thinner, drier, and has less melanin. Therefore it cannot be adequately heated to destroy the follicle.
