What is a grout and why is it needed?
Ceramic tiles have an inherent characteristic of size variation, which is a universal phenomenon. International EN norms specify a % variation in length and width over the nominal size. In order that the tiles when laid on the floor appear in a straight line, a deliberate gap of mm between rows of tiles is kept. This gap takes care of variations in length and width and is filled up with special clay based cementing material called grout. The grout can be used with a colour pigment to augment the colours of the laid tile. The grouts are used only for floor tiles.
