What is a Green Card Lottery?

The purpose of the program is to increase the diversity of the United States with applicants from certain countries.
A specific number of Green Cards are available to individuals in countries who in recent years have only a few immigrants to the United States. The purpose of this program is to ensure a diverse ethnic mixture among those who come to the United States. These Green Cards are randomly assigned via a computer.
