What is a great craft project for kids for summer fun?
1. One great craft idea is to go down to the river and pick up clay. It provides a great lesson in doing for oneself and that nature provides for us. Have a field trip down to the river, find some clay, show them what to look for so they, too, can find their own. This reinforces the idea that they have picked up what looks like a normal rock and will be transforming it into their own work of art. When you get home, bust the clay rocks up with a hammer (you should do this). When you get manageable chunks, show them how to grind the clay between two rocks until it becomes powdery. Add a little bit of sand (about one part sand to three parts clay powder). Mix this up and add a little water until you get a manageable mass. It’s a lot of fun to play around with clay.
