What Is A Graphical User Interface (GUI)?
A graphical user interface (GUI) makes interaction with a computer easier by using pictures to execute command strings. All of today’s major operating systems provide a graphical user interface. Elements of a GUI include such things as windows, pull-down menus, buttons, scroll bars, etc. As you read this, you are looking at the graphical user interface of your Web browser. In the old days, you would’ve had to type out long command strings to open up your “My Documents” folder. Well-designed graphical user interfaces make it so that you don’t have to learn complex command languages. Because of GUI, today you can get to your “My Documents” folder with just a few simple clicks.
