What is a grade of Withdrawal (“W”) and how do I withdraw from a class?
Withdrawing from a class is ideal for students who have never attended or have stopped participating in their class(es), or are unable to complete the semester, because it prevents them from receiving a failing grade that would negatively affect their cumulative grade point average (GPA). A grade of Withdrawal (“W”) appears on a student’s transcript, but is not included in his or her GPA. See the Grade of Incomplete, Grade Pending, and Withdrawal policy to learn more about the “W” grade. No later than 14 days prior to the end of the semester, you can withdraw from your class(es) and receive a “W” grade. If you have never attended a class or have stopped participating, you can avoid receiving a failing grade by withdrawing. To find out how to withdraw, see our official withdrawal procedures. If you are a financial aid recipient, be sure to contact your financial aid advisor before withdrawing to determine if or how this will affect you.
