What is a good way to soundproof an outdoor shooting range?
Soundproof is not going to be possible. Please check with your county’s laws regarding ranges, they likely have them especially since you have neighbors close. There’s not just noise to consider, but ricochets and the lead, which in many jusridictions is considered hazardous waste. My range has some natural hills plus some constructed berms that really do reduce the sound at ground level in the area. If you can build a range, I’d suggest a three-sided bunker made of cement blocks, lined with foam panels and covered on the inside with wood, a slanted, double layer roof made of wood (which does absorb sound well) and covered on top with a metal roof. If you could surround this with earth on the three sides, that would work well. While you have the dozer there, have them construct berms on either side of the shooting lane for a ways. Grass and heavy, mature trees in the area will dissipate the noises well too. With something like this, I doubt neighbors would be bothered by the .22s. The
