What Is a Good Way to Clean Lead in Stained Glass Doors?
Stained-glass door artists assemble pieces of colored glass using lead strips called cames that are H-shaped in cross section. As the stained-glass door ages, it becomes necessary to clean it, especially the part of the door on the outside which is exposed to the elements. The lead becomes soiled, and in extreme cases may develop a white powdery residue of lead carbonate. Use only cloth, paper toweling or a gentle brush and maybe fine steel wool to clean the lead strips.
