What is a good water pokemon to have in pokemon emerald?
There are a ton of good pokemon who can learn surf in Emerald. Two easy-to-get recommendations are Lanturn, and Starmie Lanturn can be found in his unevolved form, Chinchou underwater. However, Lanturn is a force to be reckoned with once you get him. Lanturn’s best approach is called parafusion, which means you first paralyze with Thunder wave and then follow up with Confuse ray. More than half of the time, the opponent will hit themselves or not attack. This leaves Lanturn with plenty of time to whittle down the opponent’s health. His ability, Volt Absorb, is nice too, giving him HP when hit by an electric attack. A good moveset would be: Surf Thunderbolt/Ice Beam Confuse Ray Thunder Wave Starmie can also be found in his unevolved form, Staryu, except by fishing with a Super Rod in Lilycove City. Starmie is nice because it is fast and strong, a potent combination. It also has a phenomenal movepool, which boasts Recover among other things. Overall, I think Starmie fits your play style
