First of all, go to the store or Amazon and get some Septic Stank Tree Root Killer, unless you are using city sewage and then of course that won’t help. I hate digging up sewer lines, so you have my full sympathies. The killer is expensive but not as expensive as having to dig up, replace and cover new pipe. Sherrilltree has a Biobarrier Root Control System that I’m looking at using.  According to the manufacturer Biobarrier is an advanced long-term root control system.  It uses time-release nodules where it can create the barrier and prevents structural damage from root encroachment but it doesn’t harm the tree either.  I know people have used it for around swimming pools, tennis courts, and building foundations.

Deeproot has tree barriers that come in different heights of 12″, 18″, 24″, 36″, and 48″.  They are straightforword to install and are 24″ wide. The size you choose will depend on your specific site and need.
