The answer is very obvious, that large number of persons migrate in search of livelihood. In fact the slums are populated entirely with the migrants or their progeny. Now the question is why the people migrate in the first place to the big cities. Obviously in search of jobs which are available in the bib cities. The larger the city i.e. the more population means bigger economy that has the capacity to absorb more people and hen more people come the economy becomes bigger and attract more people — an unending process.
