What is a good spray program to control lawn pests?
There was a time when gardeners sprayed every other month, March through October to control lawn pests. University of Florida studies found most lawns flourished without the frequent pesticide treatments. They also revealed many beneficial insects help control the pests. Good bugs include earwigs, spiders, and big-eyed bugs. The pesticides kill these as well. Most gardeners scout their yards and stay alert for declining turf. Problem areas are checked for pests and sprayed as needed. Lawns also decline because of drought, diseases, nematodes and lack of sun.
