What is a good solo trumpet song for an intermediate player?
“Feels So Good” by Chuck Mangione. It’s written for flugelhorn, but trumpet can play it nonetheless. Highest note in the solo is “D” above the staff, but it’s a short quick one, and it only happens twice. Highest note used in the song frequently is “A” above the staff. The trumpet solo from the second movement (Called “Intermezzo”) of “First Suite in Eb,” by Gustav Holst. It uses a straight mute. Highest note is “F” top line. There are numerous solos in Arban’s as well as Herbert Clarke studies. Oh! And there is an amazing solo, but it’s sort of short, by Tan Dun’s “Internet Symphony: Eroica.” I actually have the sheet music with me.
