What is a good score on the SAT?
The SAT is scored out of a possible 2400 points. There are 800 possible points for each section: Math, Reading, and Writing. The essay that is included in the writing portion of the exam is scored on a scale from 2-12, and counts for roughly 30% of the overall writing score. The average score on each section is around 500 points, or 1500 points on the entire exam. A “good” score depends on what your college goals are. It is a good idea to check the admissions guidelines for all of the colleges that you are considering, including average SAT scores.
