What is a good rental property website for New York?

Hi I’m just wondering which is a good website to look for rental property in New York. Also can anyone recommend any areas to live in that are not obscenely expensive and are pleasant enough (I know it’s vague but I haven’t got a clue as I have only stayed in a nice hotel in Manhatten on holiday) Any advice on living in New York (or other places in America) would be helpful as I am toying with the idea of trying to move from England.
