What is a good portable GPS system?
We recently purchased a Garmin (350, I believe) and used it on our PNW vacation. Overall we loved it, it made hunting down the many locations we traveled to a lot easier. There are a few quirks, however, but I think they’re fairly common to other GPS systems. We discovered the first one when we arrived at PDX, jumped into our rental car, and took off while turning the Garmin on. It didn’t find the satellite at first, and when if finally did, it still thought we were in West Chester (Ohio) and tried to get us to our Portland hotel from home! All we had to do was turn it off and turn it back on again (we were in a parking structure when we first turned it on, so it probably couldn’t find the satellite), but we were already driving…with no directions as to where to go…and trying to figure out what was wrong. The big lesson learned here is be sure the Garmin is linked up and ready to go before you just take off! We also found in a few big cities we had a little trouble getting a satell
